Your Questions Answered

What methodology is used? What do sessions look like?

Remote video chat (or in-person near Silverton, OR.) sessions are 1-hour long and consist of a fusion of the following wisdom traditions: Western and Eastern psychology, Yoga, Ayurveda, mindfulness meditation. I tailor each session based on your goals.

How are strategies personalized for me?

I will hone in on the optimal practices to address your symptoms or objectives based on your unique psycho-somatic constitution.

My training as an Ayurvedic practitioner positions me to be able to assess your current state of being from an integrative lens and offer remedies that penetrate to the root cause of imbalance. Your health history and an understanding of the conditioning and assumptions at play for you are all considered.

Is Yoga always part of working with me?

No, not necessarily. But the principles of Hatha Yoga (a sister science to Ayurveda) inform my understanding of how to optimize health.

What if I’ve never meditated, or never had success meditating, before?

Then you’re in the right place. I can help find the “in-road” for you to an increasingly calm mind which may include a form of formal or informal meditation, and may not.

I’m taking pharmaceutical medication for my mental health. Does that inhibit the effects of this holistic approach?

No. For many clients, medication (whether short-term or long-term use) contributes to establishing a stable baseline for the strategies we work on together to be effective. I work closely with psychiatrist Dr. David Brendel to offer our mutual clients an integrative approach.

Tools & Approach

Western Psychology

Decades of experience in the mental health field has taught me the fine art of counseling. As an associate in Harvard trained psychiatrist Dr. David Brendel’s practice and as a former mental health counselor at psychiatric hospital Walden Behavioral Care, I’ve learned from my clients about how healing happens. I’m currently working toward a graduate degree in the field.

Mindfulness

It requires skill and practice to pay attention to what’s present moment-to-moment without judging one’s experience. This is a technique easily adapted to the workplace. The personal and professional success that unfolds from this quality of connection and self-compassion continues to impress me in my work with clients.

Buddhist Psychology

Not to be confused with Buddism, secular Buddhist psychological wisdom informs my approach to the therapeutic process. Foundational tenants like impermanence, surrender, and the nature of suffering help us orient toward liberation and a meaningful life well lived.

Yoga

Yogic philosophy and embodied practice provide the tools for somatic release and integration. Our tissues hold our stress. The application of Yoga in sessions with me could be peripheral, or of greater emphasis.

Ayurveda

Translated as “The Science of Life,” Ayurveda views each human being as a unique, dynamic expression of the 5 elements. The holistic lens of Ayurvedic psychology & medicine is my primary orientation in assessing effective remedies for clients.

Meditation

Inclusive of, but not limited to, mindfulness, meditation practice includes a broad spectrum of ancient techniques applicable for the modern mind.
